December 7th: Friend of Banning Museum to Hold “Victorian Christmas” Free Admission for the General Public

WILMINGTON, CA - On Saturday, December 7th from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., The Banning Museum will kick off the holiday season with our annual Victorian Christmas. The event is FREE admission for the general public and will be held at The Banning Museum, 401 East “M” Street, Wilmington, CA 90744.

Victorian Christmas at the Banning Museum has been an annual holiday tradition in the greater Los Angeles Area for over 35 years. The Museum grounds are transformed into a Christmas Festival featuring walk-through tours of the festively decorated Banning Mansion, Victorian dancers, cookies and hot cider, family holiday crafts, local food vendors, handmade crafts by area artisans, South Torrance High School Choir, and Santa and Mrs. Claus will pose for photos with the kids by a historic carriage. One of the highlights of the festivities is a horse-drawn trolley ride to the Drum Barracks Civil War Museum, also in Wilmington.

About The Banning Museum

The Banning Museum, also known as the Banning House or Banning Mansion is a historic Greek Revival-Victorian home in the Wilmington section of Los Angeles, California. It was built in 1864 by Phineas Banning, “Father of the Port of Los Angeles,” and entrepreneur and founder of the City of Wilmington. Subsequent generations of the Banning family lived in the 23-room house until 1925; in 1927 the residence, stagecoach barn, and the surrounding 20 acres of parkland were acquired by the City of Los Angeles.

The Banning House property, also known as Banning Park, has been designated as a city Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument and state California Historical Landmark and has been federally listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
